PURPOSE: Perform skilled work in all phases of operation and maintenance of utility equipment in the Thermal Energy Plant, Housing/University Center and Physical Plant. Insure consistent and continuous supply of generated utilities; perform proper and timely maintenance and operation of utility equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam boilers, centrifugal refrigeration machines, cooling towers, compressors, pumps and related equipment. Read and record pressures, temperatures, fluid levels and other operating conditions. Maintain engineering logs and equipment status. Record results of water equipment status. Conduct water analysis. Perform required preventive maintenance work. Clean, repair, oil and/or paint equipment, piping or building structure. Perform related duties as required. Disassemble, repair and reassemble operating devices. Notify energy plant supervision in the event of an accident or serious malfunction.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Oral or written direction from the Utilities Operation Supervisor, or Maintenance Supervisor. Work is reviewed through inspection of log sheets and charts, consistency of generated utilities and appearance of facility. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Assigns work to other personnel on assigned shift to include Utility Station Operator I and Maintenance Worker II.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduate or 3 years experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of steam or chilled water generating equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate and maintain equipment in assigned facilitates. Required in all phases of work. Exposed to high pressures and temperatures, rotating equipment and high voltage electrical equipment. Outside work during inclement weather, heavy lifting and climbing Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
