PURPOSE: To provide technical skills analyzing and treating water used in the heating and air conditioning equipment. Responsible for daily water analysis and proper treatment when necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts daily analysis of water used in boilers and cooling towers to ensure that it does not contain harmful or corrosive substances. Makes written water analysis reports. Adds chemicals for water treatments as needed. Assist with overhauling of chillers, boilers and cooling towers. Provides journeyman level skills in the maintenance of heating and air conditioning equipment as needed. Performs related duties as required. Prepares boilers for annual inspections. Occasionally provides relief work in other Physical Plant areas.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Utility Operations Supervisor determines job priorities and inspects work. Written reports are reviewed daily. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May occasionally supervise helpers or laborers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Two years of college with courses in chemistry, biology or related sciences.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in water treatment and cooling and heating systems. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of boilers, cooling towers and other refrigeration and control test equipment. Ability to keep accurate reports and to administer proper chemical water treatment. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements, such as chemicals, noise and hazardous equipment and exposure to weather elements. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
