PURPOSE: To provide journeyman level skills in the repair and abatement of asbestos containing building materials, thermal insulation, and fireproofing. Responsible for repair and abatement of asbestos containing materials as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform asbestos abatement on pipes via glove bag technique; erect containment structures for large abatement projects; repair asbestos containing thermal insulation to prevent contamination of adjacent areas; removal of asbestos containing building materials such as ceiling tile, fireproofing, or spray applied finish surfaces, perform clean up operations at completion of asbestos abatement projects; handle and dispose of asbestos materials.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Direct supervision during asbestos abatement activities from Licensed Asbestos Project Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation and completion of asbestos training as required by Federal and State regulations. Must have current registration with Texas Department of Health, Asbestos Licensing Division as an Asbestos Worker or Asbestos Project Supervisor. Valid Texas driver's license required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One-year experience as a registered Asbestos Worker or Asbestos Project Supervisor. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Skill in the use of the materials and tools common to asbestos abatement projects. Required in all phases of work. Working conditions are considered acceptable; but involve working from scaffolds or ladders; works in areas with elevated ambient temperatures; requires use of respiratory protective equipment and other personal protective equipment. May be required to work after normal business hours or on short notice. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
