PURPOSE: To provide supervisory and operational skills in the Police Department Communication Center. Responsible for supervising all Telecommunications Officers and the day-to-day operations of the Communications Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To supervise and participate in the operations of the Communications Center. Monitors the accuracy of all records in the Communications Center, insures that all radio operations comply with FCC regulations, validates all entries in TCIC/NCIC, maintains the files of all computer inquiry and entry records, completes monthly and annual telecommunications activities summaries, conducts on-the-job training, constantly analyzes, evaluates and corrects performance of subordinates, performs duties of the Communications Operator when necessary. Responsible for the efficient operation of all radio and computer equipment in the Communications Center.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision by observation and/or conference from the University Police Department. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Close and frequent supervision to police communications operator and assigned police guards.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduate or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience as a Police Communications Operator. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge of and skill in the use of police radio equipment, telephones, typewriters and the various computer equipment in the Communications Center (Alpha Micro Mini Computer System, Russco Alarm Computer, Computer Aided Dispatch System, TCIC/NCIC). This knowledge of the various computers should also include the ability to troubleshoot problems. Must have a thorough knowledge of FCC regulations to insure compliance as required. Proficiency in all phases of duties performed. Must be available for consultation or troubleshooting problems in the Communications Center at all hours, day or night. Must be able to work any of the four shifts and varying days off. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
