PURPOSE: To provide technical skills in the operation and support of environmental health and safety programs in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and institutional policies. Responsible for monitoring policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs basic inspections of properties and operations to evaluate health and safety issues. Assists faculty and staff regarding the interpretation and implementation of health and safety regulations, policies and procedures. Responds to reports of potentially unsafe conditions such as smoke, fire, spills, odors, and/or exposure, risk and/or contamination. Surveys campus departments, shops, and laboratories for compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local hazardous materials regulations. Maintains documents, manifests, and computer tracking system for the University's hazardous waste disposal program Prepares reports of observations and findings. Conducts safety-training classes for institutional employees and students, as required. Maintains current knowledge of policies, guidelines and regulations from governmental agencies. Performs related duties as required. Attends seminars and workshops to learn the current safety techniques and standards. Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and other written guidelines.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in engineering, a natural science, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
