PURPOSE: To assist in providing support and compliance with standards and regulations for either fire safety, biological and chemical safety, radiation safety, hazardous waste management, or controlled substances. Responsible for routine procedures in either 61% safety, biological and chemical safety, radiation safety, hazardous waste management, or controlled substances.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitors and surveys laboratories/offices using containing or storing radioactive isotopes. Performs periodic pick up, transportation, segregation, and processing of materials which may be radioactive or otherwise hazardous. Maintains storage areas, equipment and personal protective equipment related to hazardous waste programs. Inspects facilities and records of approved users of controlled substances. Provides instruction and support to faculty and staff to reach and maintain compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding Controlled Substances handling, purchases and receipts of Controlled Substances, and inspection findings. Conducts surveys of user laboratories including the collection of wipe samples, auditing records, and documenting observed violations. Adheres to institutional, State, and Federal regulations and guidelines when handling hazardous materials or when exposed to hazardous situations. Prepares paperwork for maintaining State and Federal agency reports. Must adhere to requirements of departmental and institutional Disaster Plan. Performs other related duties as required. Attends training courses in radiation safety, hazardous waste management and handling and general safety.

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Associate's degree in science related field, fire protection general safety, or equivalent experience.
