PURPOSE: Provides investigative expertise and oversight on a wide variety of criminal investigations. Responsible for conducting investigation while enforcing criminal laws and institutional regulations that promote the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees, visitors and all property within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas System.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Investigates criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals. Corresponds and cooperates with other law enforcement agencies to gather and exchange information. Conducts surveillance, develops and maintains information sources. Serves as lead case agent on major crimes. As directed, supervises subordinates while they are conducting investigation and maintains related files. Prepares case reports for court action and testifies in court. Provides training for departmental personnel and processes crime scenes. Periodically serves as the on-call investigator; and other related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Sergeant, University Police or as directed. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Subordinate University Police Personnel as directed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: In accordance with current levels of education for Commissioned Police Officers of the University of Texas System as adopted by the Board of Regents.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Ten years experience as a Commissioned Peace Officer, with four years as an investigator or detective. Commissioned Licensed Peace Officer for the State of Texas. Possess an Advanced Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Valid Texas Driver's License. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be proficient with the operation of all equipment utilized by the University Police Department necessary to perform assigned duties. Proficiency in all phases of duties performed. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Work involves a degree of hazard. May require careful operation of equipment for protection of equipment or the individual. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
