PURPOSE: To provide the stock keeping and clerical skills necessary to maintain proper inventory levels end stock records for a stores unit. Responsible for receiving, checking, marking, storing, and issuing supplies, maintaining stock records, and preparing reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to performing the duties of a Stores Clerk II, performs a combination but not necessarily all of the following responsibilities: Provides working supervision for a small group of Stores Clerk I's, making work assignments, resolving work problems, and reviewing work in process and at completion. Traces purchase origins of incoming shipments which arrive without identifying purchase order numbers, contacting vendors, buyers, and/or department personnel by telephone to establish identity of the correct recipient of the shipment. Prepares vouchers for payment of purchases. Provides information on the telephone in response to inquiries concerning status, receipt, damage, overage, or shortage of\ merchandise or materials on order or received. Maintains control records showing stock on hand, stock on order, and stock used during previous periods. Reviews stock records and recommends or initiates ordering of supplies to maintain adequate stock levels. Posts newly received stock items and prices on bin and card index, computing costs of new items and averaging with costs of similar items in stock. Performs related duties as required.
