PURPOSE: Provides the supervisory skills required in the operation of a stores unit and sets up an efficient system for scorekeeping. Responsible for the maintenance of maximum and minimum stocks and for the operation of an accounting system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs some but not necessarily all of the following duties: Performs purchasing and buying duties of certain merchandise to be distributed to departments on campus. Contacts vendor for bids and awards contracts for certain merchandise. Supervises the maintenance of records, the pricing of supplies disbursed on job orders and material transfers. Prepares vouchers for payment of materials received. Assists with preparation and maintenance of a file of standard ordering specifications. Establishes the procedure for receiving, inspecting and delivery of material to using departments. Issues requisitions for items obtainable under State Contract after determining which vendors are under such contracts. Reviews computer printouts of inventory to assure accuracy of information, checking items on hand against those issued and determining need to reorder. Performs related duties as required. Supervises inventory of supplies stores in warehouse; prepare reports of stockroom condition and activity.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Reviewed for overall effectiveness of the stores unit. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision to all stores, unit, or warehouse personnel.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of experience in the procurement, storage, issue, and accounting for property, including one year in a supervisory capacity. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: May be required to use computer, typewriter and adding machine. May need to possess ability to drive light and medium size trucks, to operate forklift and other types of material handling equipment and to perform physical labor in moving stocks. Employing department may require a valid Texas Operator s License and ability to qualify for a Texas Commercial License. Extreme accuracy required in the maintenance of records and in preparing and submitting reports. Working conditions are acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to weather and physical hazards in the operation of warehouse vehicles. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
