PURPOSE: Performs responsible professional work and handles advanced procedures associated with the outreach and promotion of the University. Conducts outreach to prospective program participants, recruits students into the program, and counsels students in the areas of education, college admission, and financial aid to help economically disadvantaged individuals pursue a post-secondary education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as senior level Community Education Specialist. Helps train staff, supervises satellite site and staff where appropriate. Acts as liaison with other offices. Has daily contact with prospective students and the counseling community; cultivates relationships with school personnel and community agencies. Gives presentations to community organizations and schools. Handles college fairs, financial aid fairs, career fairs, etc. Makes regular presentations to schools, community organizations, and social services agencies. Actively recruits students into the program and verifies their eligibility under federal regulations. Provides group and individual counseling on educational options, academic advising, scholarship information, assistance completing admissions and financial aid forms, career counseling, and ACT/SAT/TASP testing information. Administers and scores appropriate inventory tests. Tracks participants ' status and services received. Completes appropriate federal reporting requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Broad instructions from Director; must be able to work with minimal supervision. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises office staff, including Community Education Specialists I and clerical workers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor s degree or equivalent working experience in education, counseling, student services, or related field. Master's degree or equivalent working experience in education, counseling, student services, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Minimum five years experience in an educational or counseling setting, preferably post-secondary; supervisory experience; experience working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds; delivery of presentations to small and large groups; excellent oral and written communications skills and computer skills; must be able to maintain confidentiality with regard to program information and records; ability and willingness to work as part of a team; previous TRIO experienced preferred; bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Computers for word processing, electronic mail,internet searches; and standard office equipment. Must have car to conduct site visits in the community. Must be accurate in administering and scoring tests and in keeping detailed records in accordance with federal and state requirements. General office conditions; regular local travel; occasional out-of-state travel to work-related conferences/training; some evening and weekend work required. Must be able to lift and transport boxes of educational materials to and from office to school/agency sites.
