PURPOSE: To provide specialized skills in the use of personal computers in producing published materials and to serve as a department's central resource in the areas of desktop publishing and computer interface technology. Responsible for all graphic, word processing, and technical applications of computer programs in a publishing operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares copy for publication through the use of various graphics, work processing, and other programs. Prepares personal computer discs for interface with typesetting systems. Prepares camera-ready art for newsletters, posters, flyers, book covers and other materials. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision as to the details of work. Completed work is reviewed by the department head or production manager. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree with major in communications, art, computer science, or another field related to the work to be performed. Specialized coursework in desktop publishing programs and principles preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Skill in the use of one or more personal computers. Skill in the use of the hiring department's computer preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Accurate in all phases of work performed. Usual office conditions. Special job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
