PURPOSE: To perform highly skilled work in the printing unit and the skilled operation of various types of offset equipment. Responsible for producing neat and clean printed material, maintaining and repairing of lithographic machines, and, in some instances, maintain and operate lithographic equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and schedules assigned work to provide for effective utilization of press time. Prints varied documents such as letters, folders, forms and other material using the large press. Makes close adjustments and alignments to achieve clean, legible, well-centered images. Mixes and dilutes inks and chemicals, and has knowledge of four-color printing. Maintains supply stock by requisitioning materials, supplies and equipment as needed. Performs related duties as required. Takes physical inventory of stock annually. May do relief camera work as needed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Print Shop Supervisor and/or Assistant Print Shop Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: In some instances, checks the work of new or temporary employees.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of offset and other lithographic equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Offset press, collator, paper cutter, power hole punch, stapling machine, binding equipment, automatic exposure unit for making plates. Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of all printing equipment. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involves prolonged standing, lifting, carrying and exposure to hazards of mechanical equipment, fumes, odors, dust and noise. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Special job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
