PURPOSE: To make ready and operate offset presses to print single and multiple color. Responsible for performing duties to produce materials by operating an offset press. Responsible for producing neat and clean printed material, quality of which must meet highest standards in book work and four color process printing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prints varied material such as letterhead, folders, books, forms, brochures, posters and other printed matter by offset process. Makes adjustments and alignments to register multiple colors of ink including four-color process work. May operate one or more of the following presses: a color 19x25 or 20x29. Examines job orders to determine all aspects of job production and reproduces work accurately. Observes maintenance schedule for the press. Mixes ink to match designated samples. Sets up for printing book by perfecting method printing two sides at the same time by making change-over from straight to perfecting mode. Cuts paper to prescribed size in order to assure proper folding and binding. Produces work at speed applicable to press. Performs related duties as required. Cleans, oils and adjusts. Performs necessary preventative maintenance on two-color offset press as specified in operator s manual to maintain press in good operating condition.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation, GED or graduation from a vocational school that has specific graphic arts training.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of offset and other lithographic equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Offset press, paper cutter, and power lifts. Accuracy in all phases of work performed. Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of all printing equipment. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involve prolonged standing, lifting, carrying and exposure to hazards of mechanical equipment, fumes, odors, dust and noise. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Special job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
