PURPOSE: To provide the technical skill and supervision directing the operation of a central printing shop and to coordinate printing requests from the various departments within the institution. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the operation of a central print shop.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Consults, coordinates, plans and schedules all activities involved in the operations of the printing department. Supervises the work of clerical and skilled operators in the accomplishment of varied printing tasks. Advises requesting departments as to available paper stock and appropriate colors, format, binding, etc., to produce requested job orders. Provides technical advice and direction to equipment operators and other employees. Estimates individual job costs; reviews and approves the daily records of work orders for billing purposes and enters jobs through controlled order entry system. Controls inventory levels by requisitioning materials, supplies and equipment timed to take advantage of price breaks and maintains a perpetual inventory system. Provides relief to production. Performs related duties as required. Provides present operational costs and future budget estimates for the printing department as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General direction from the Director or Assistant Director of Printing and Publications. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision over all personnel in the printing department, with authority to hire, terminate and counsel employees with discipline problems.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in the operation and supervision of duplicating unit OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Various types of offset presses, duplicators, paper cutters, folders and other general bindery equipment. Accuracy in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are acceptable, but involves exposure to mechanical equipment, dust and noise. Alertness and careful attention Is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
