PURPOSE: To provide a comprehensive advertising and marketing program for The Shorthorn student newspaper and other Department of Student Publications projects. Responsible for the sales, ad design and promotional operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Recruit, train, advise and supervise student sales, advertising design and marketing staffs; develop and update account and prospect lists; develop and implement annual advertising sales, marketing and revenue plans; develop and service major display, house and national accounts; check and proofread all display ads; handle customer inquiries and complaints; and coordinate professional advertising staff.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Overall review by the Director of Student Publications. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Student sales, marketing and ad design staffs and professional advertising and office staff as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, journalism or related field. Bachelor's degree in other fields will be considered if combined with substantial professional experience relevant to position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Minimum of two years in advertising or related field. Newspaper advertising sales experience and familiarity with newspaper business practices preferred. Experience in student publications also helpful. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Working knowledge of standard office machines and computer applications applicable to the responsibilities of this position: word processing, desktop publishing, advertising design software, advertising business applications, etc. Competence in sales techniques, ad layout/design, copy writing and editing and advertising business procedures. Usual deadline and sales pressures. Frequent local travel. Excellent people skills and speaking and writing proficiency.
