PURPOSE: To perform accounting work and to supervise a major area of the work of the accounting office or other large business area. Responsible for the application of advanced accounting knowledge and abilities in the preparation of a variety of complex regular and special financial reports and statements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans assigns and supervises the work of a clerical staff in the preparation of accounting reports; posting and balancing reports. Check accounting operations in progress; reviews and audits completed financial records and reports for accuracy and conformance with State and University procedures and regulations. Advises department heads and administrative personnel on accounting matters. Works closely with Data Processing Office in planning for maximum utilization for regular periodical financial reports. Performs related duties required. Reviews and studies accounting procedures. Suggests and assists in developing more efficient methods and procedures.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision by the Business Manager, or other administrative officer. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General and direct supervision of Accountants I and II. Accounting Clerks I, II. and III and other clerical or bookkeeping personnel who might assist in an accounting operation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in accounting.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years of experience in governmental or commercial accounting. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Standard office machines, knowledge of data processing, equipment capabilities and personal computer. Proficiency in evaluating, observations, analysis and reporting of financial data. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
