PURPOSE: To perform advanced accounting clerical work involving participation in the work of a department maintaining numerous and diversified departmental accounts and records. Responsible for applying fundamental accounting practices and controls to a variety of financial transactions. Must exercise independent thought and judgment over non-routine accounting problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Exercises control over the preparation, processing, and checking of accounting documents. Analyzes data for accuracy and initiates corrective action where necessary. Responsible for the maintenance of detailed reports and records of accounting data. Assists section or unit supervisor in ensuring that special projects and tasks are completed. Performs other duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Minimal-determines own work methods or approaches to work problems based upon technical/specialized knowledge or experience. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May be given direct, day to day supervision of Accounting Clerks III, II and other clerical staff members or student employees.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years of experience in governmental or commercial accounting at a level comparable to that of an Accounting Clerk III. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Standard machines common to accounting offices, knowledge of PC, CRT, and calculator. Proficiency in all phases of the duties performed. Employing department may require light typing. Usual office conditions, but may be required to work extended hours during peak periods. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification renders the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 5 I.2 I5 Texas Education Code.
