PURPOSE: To provide skilled purchasing knowledge and tact dealing with departments and outside vendors for the purpose of obtaining supplies. Responsible for independently determining the disposition of routine procurement problems, referring to a superior all non-routine problems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determine work priority. Receive requisitions. Determine bidders. Accept, tabulate and make awards on all local purchases up to a certain dollar value. Prepare bid invitations and maintain bid suspense file. Type purchase orders. Advise departmental personnel on source of supply for many items. Must be familiar with many and varied types of merchandise so as to properly advise departmental personnel as to quality and source. Confer with departmental personnel concerning specifications, complaints, and special problems pertaining to procurement. Confer with representatives of manufacturing and commercial firms. Follow up price differences on invoices and orders. Performs related duties. Confer with departmental personnel and supplier representatives in assisting the Receiving Department in the accurate placement of merchandise received unmarked. Assist in the training of new personnel. Occasional travel may be required by employing department.
