PURPOSE: To manage laboratory(s) for specialized instructional and/or research computing applications. Responsible for supervision all operations of laboratory including scheduling, user assistance, software management, hardware integrity, and planning for future needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise computer laboratory, coordinate and schedule users to lab resources in accordance with policy. Contact outside vendor on required maintenance of micro/computer, software and hardware. Maintain and write documentation of procedures and assure security of the system and its facility. Schedule work hours to provide computer laboratory service (approx. 70 hrs. per week). Train students and new employees. Monitor inventory supplies, and daily laboratory usage. Supervise maintenance of system documentation library. Assist faculty in planning scheduled usage of laboratory facilities for students' assignments. Resolve complex problems. Provide periodic back up of stored data and prepare various reports. Advise superiors of operational progress, system management, and future capabilities of computer equipment. Perform related duties.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Determines own work sequence within limits of established policies practices and procedures. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Considerable supervision of productive effort to students and clerical staff.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Master's degree in computer related area or in a field related to the users of the lab.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Master's degree with two years of experience or Bachelor's degree with four years experience with software and hardware in use within the lab. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: MICRO/MINI computers and related operating systems, graphic workstations, plotters, terminals and printers. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
