PURPOSE: To operate and monitor an electronic digital computer system in advanced data processing and computational applications. Responsible for, under supervision the operation and monitoring of a computer system and peripheral equipment in accordance with established procedures and operational instructions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates computers by responding to console messages and handles peripheral equipment such as storage devices, printers, card and tape readers, etc., in accordance with operating procedures and program instructions. Reviews program documentation to determine equipment set-up and operational sequences for machine runs. Places information media into input devices. Removes and stores output. Performs related duties. Assists in maintaining operating logs and time-sharing records. Performs or assigns emergency duties to lower level operators on the shift in case of fire, flood or other disasters.
