PURPOSE: To operate and monitor an electronic digital computer system in advanced data processing and computational applications. Responsible for, under supervision the operation and monitoring of a computer system and peripheral equipment in accordance with established procedures and operational instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates computers by responding to console messages and handles peripheral equipment such as storage devices, printers, card and tape readers, etc., in accordance with operating procedures and program instructions. Reviews program documentation to determine equipment set-up and operational sequences for machine runs. Places information media into input devices. Removes and stores output. Performs related duties. Assists in maintaining operating logs and time-sharing records. Performs or assigns emergency duties to lower level operators on the shift in case of fire, flood or other disasters.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from senior operators and supervisory staff. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May be required to assist in the training and supervision of Computer Operators I.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year of experience in the operation of computer systems or completion of a one-year training course in computer operations. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Electronic computers operations and basic computer concepts. Accuracy required in following written and verbal operating instructions. Standard conditions associated with a data processing installation. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
