PURPOSE: To operate, monitor, and control a large-scale digital computer system in advanced data processing and computational applications and to assist in the scheduling of workflow through the system. Responsible for the processing and reporting of data by use of electronic computer system for solving records keeping, business manage-merit, or scientific and engineering research problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Controls and monitors the operation of a large-scale computer system. Sets control switches on computer and peripheral equipment for integrated operations in accordance with written and verbal instructions. Selects and loads input and removes output. Assists supervisory personnel in planning and scheduling of machine runs and other data processing operations. Assists in the training of new operators and in instructions concerning new procedures. Report any unusual occurrence during shift to supervisor. Performs related duties as required. Maintains operating records on system performance and production by operators log. Performs or assigns emergency duties to other operators on the shift in case of fire, flood or other disasters.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Computer Operator IV or Manager of Operations and Services. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Assist in supervision of lower level operators and training of new operators (in absence of a supervisory position, may serve as acting supervisor). Responsible for operations shift and directs other operators and record equipment operators on shift.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation, supplemented by vocational business training in an appropriate field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in the operation of high-speed digital computers and auxiliary equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: High-speed electronic computers and peripheral equipment, and basic computer concepts. Accuracy and mature judgment required in all phases of duties performed. Standard conditions associated with a data processing installation. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security/sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
