PURPOSE: To assist in the preparation of programs for the solution of problems through the use of electronic data processing equipment. Responsible for assisting in the preparation of short programs of portions of more complex programs in accordance with flow charts and specific instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Writes computer code in accordance with strict specifications of program performance. Prepares flow charts or other documentation of detailed implementation steps. Test runs programs. Corrects errors. Compares results for conformity with specifications. Measures and improves running time of programs. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Computer Programmers, Programmer/Analysts, or Software Systems Specialists. Detailed instruction and on-job training given by professional programmers. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation supplemented by two years of accredited, college-level coursework in computer science, mathematics, physics, or related field, or by the completion of vocational training in computer programming.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Six months of experience in programming for electronic computers. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use personal computers, terminals and various data processing equipment. Accuracy is required in the application of programming techniques and mathematical theories to the solution of problems. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security/sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
