PURPOSE: To provide technical skills in the preparation and use of programs designed for the solution of problems by electronic computers. Responsible for application of programming techniques and/or mathematical theories in the development and modification of computer programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares flowcharts and block diagrams. Assists in defining and analyzing problems. Studies and modifies existing programs to meet needs of a specific problem. Develops new programs. Checks solutions computed against known solutions. Prepares a description of program. Checks programs for logical sequence of machine operations. Prepares program documentation and operating instructions for new programs. Performs related duties as required. Advises and assists research and other personnel in analyzing and defining problems for computer solutions, methods of approach selection or modification of programs, and in correcting programming errors. Assists less experienced programmers in developing programs and in testing and revising programs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
