PURPOSE: To advise and provide consultation to computer users on various skill levels regarding the effective use of computer resources. Responsible for providing routine information to faculty, staff, students, and various other groups regarding computers and their usage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Consults with users on the use of computer(s) for course or research work, provides solutions in resolving routine computer related problems. Advises users on the use of effective programming and debugging techniques. Provides routine computer services (ex. optical scanning, tape copying. etc.) to academic departments and other groups. Tests and installs third-party application packages. Writes and updates user documentation. Provides interface between other department groups and then user community. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Manager of User Services. May consult independently with faculty, students and staff about specific problems or questions. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Delegates routine assignments to the Computer User Ser vices Assistant and Student Assistants.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Three years of course work (including at least two programming courses) towards degree in computer-related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of practical work experience in a computer related field. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of and/or experience with a wide variety of computer hardware including mainframe and microcomputer systems. Accuracy is required in application of programming techniques. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
