PURPOSE: To provide the technical experience required to modify and maintain enterprise data storage and backups. Responsible for system studies of medium complexity and for assisting in planning and developing modifications and enhancements to the enterprise data storage network system and its components.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates in the analysis of enterprise data storage systems problems of moderate complexity, and formulates and implements solutions to such problems. Performs data storage and backup, testing, and documentation. Recommends changes of data storage and backup procedures need to more efficiently use enterprise data storage systems. Designs the approved data storage and backup procedures and oversees their implementation. May specialize in a specific area of data storage such as switch or storage device configuration or backups with responsibility for implementation and maintenance. Performs other related duties as required. Participates in planning of enhancements and modifications to the data storage and backup systems, and identifies impact of such changes. Trains Data Infrastructure Specialist I as required

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under the minimum direction of a data infrastructure specialist of higher grade or the Manager of data infrastructure. Desired results are indicated in the broad terms of objectives. Work methods or approaches to work problems are determined almost entirely by the incumbent who is virtually self-supervising with respect to his/her level of assigned problems. Final results are appraised with respect to the attainment of program objectives. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Provides working supervision to data infrastructure specialists of lower grade, including job orientation or training as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in enterprise data storage and backups solutions, with at least one years of experience in Windows and UNIX systems. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Exact accuracy is required. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but require working non-standard hours. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
