PURPOSE: To provide the technical experience required to develop, maintain and provision enterprise data storage and backups. Responsible for complex system studies and for designing and developing modifications and enhancements to the enterprise data storage network system and its components.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyzes existing and projected storage systems and backup and procedures, including studies of the interaction of several storage systems to ascertain feasibility and performance. Coordinates implementation of storage systems and backups, and evaluates and modifies existing enterprise data storage components. Participates in studies of projected enhancements and growth of data storage and in the development of recommendations to management based upon the results of such studies. Advises data infrastructure specialists of lower grade with respect to determination, and possible solutions to, work problems. Performs other related duties as required. Participates in planning of enhancements and modifications to the data storage and backup systems, and identifies impact of such changes. Trains Data Infrastructure Specialists I as required

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under the broad direction where responsibility for broad planning and the attainment of program objectives is vested in the incumbent. The quality of the program may not be evident immediately and is appraised, therefore, only for initial soundness of theory, logic, and conception. The work of the incumbent is appraised in terms of long-range results. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Plans, coordinates, and supervises Data Infrastructure Specialists of lower grade, making work assignments and reviewing completed work.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in enterprise data storage and backups solutions, with at least two years of experience in Windows and UNIX systems. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Exact accuracy is required. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but require working non-standard hours. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
