PURPOSE: To assist in the operation of the campus mail service. Responsible for the various functions related to the daily operation of the post office, including the occasional supervision of the post office staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Sorts mail and prepares it for delivery. Processes outgoing departmental mail according to postal regulations. Works at cash window, selling stamps, envelopes, cards, aerogrammes, and postal money orders. Rents post office boxes. Answers questions about postal regulations. May maintain funds associated with the U.S. Postal Service Contract Station. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Mail Services Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises all post office employees in absence of Mail Service Supervisor.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year of office or mail room experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Postage meters, scales, sealers, mail insert and sorting machine, adding machine and other mail room equipment. Extremely accurate in all phases of work. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involves considerable standing, occasional heavy lifting and exposure to weather conditions when delivering mail. Special job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
