PURPOSE: To supervise the operation of a campus-wide postal service. Responsible for the direction of postal workers in the proper methods of handling and distribution of campus and U.S. mail.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, schedules, controls, and supervises the work of the central mail room, contracted U.S. Postal Office and Mail Box Operation, establishing work schedules and mail pick-up and delivery routes for both on and off campus locations. Coordinates and supervise the activities of mail clerks who (a) open, sort, and route incoming Institutional mail, including the processing of insured, certified, and registered mail, and (b) prepare for dispatch outgoing mail. Receives and resolves complaints from faculty and staff relating to mail service problems. Ensures compliance with U.S. Postal Service regulations with respect to correct postage according to mail classification, correct packaging, size and weight limitations, insurance liability limits, etc. supervise the maintenance of time and attendance records and other records pertaining to the receipt and dispatch of mail. Performs related duties as required. Trains new mail clerks, and provides on-the-job training for all subordinates, especially with respect to new procedures and equipment.
