PURPOSE: This position will provide both technical and administrative direction in the coordination and overall management of resources supporting one or more aspects of computing resources. Responsible for prompt accurate performance in planning and supervise the operation of information systems activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, organizes and schedules computing support projects and assigns these tasks to appropriate personnel. Implements and service programs for end-user computing. Endow technical consultation to users of system hardware and software required by the installation, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the systems and ensuring optimal utilization of the system resources. Designs, analyzes and tests programs. Analyzes and evaluates research related to end-user computing products and the marketplace. Provides training and instruction to users and staff regarding application of programs. Provide and assure accurate and timely computer processing production for the division. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under general supervision from the Director. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Provides general and direct supervision to staff in functional area including the administration of line personnel functions such as selection, discipline, grievances and formal performance evaluations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Seven years of experience required in systems analysis, design and programming with one year of supervisory experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge in the capabilities of computers. A broad knowledge of automated systems is required. Specific areas include one or more of the following major operating systems (VMS, MVS, NT, UNIX); large, complex application systems with multiple file structures; and/or large data networks. Requires strong study and research skills for input into instructional technical direction. Assist in the product evaluations, recommendations and presentations. Skills required include experience with multiple programming languages and proficiency in managing one or both of the following areas: complex relational database system with high integrity, reliability and architectures. Attention to detail is essential. Must have communication skills and public speaking ability. Capability to rapidly isolate computer or application system problem; that is, superb problem solving abilities. Must be able to manage both human and machine resources. Ability to understand and relate to customer needs. In performing the functions of this position, the incumbent must be able to work in a sedentary position for extended periods of time. Work is performed in a data processing center environment. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
