PURPOSE: To provide the developed technical skills required for the installation, operation, and optimization of digital network communication equipment. Responsible for installing and maintaining network communication equipment and software necessary for terminals, workstations, personal computers, and mainframe computers to effectively communicate over a computer network.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Fabricate, configure, install, and test various forms of network communication equipment. Utilize a broad base of electronic and programmed communication theory to insure effective and optimal use of network communication resources. Develop procedures necessary to determine interface requirements of new equipment/software needed for network expansion.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General and specific supervision from Network Maintenance Manager and Network Maintenance Technician III. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General training and supervision of Network Maintenance Technician I.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Two years completed courses towards bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years maintaining/repairing terminal, workstation personal computer, and two years installing and maintaining digital networks, and one year supervisory experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of and/or experience with personal computers network devices, terminal server, bridges and network boards. Familiarity with specific hardware and software utilized at the University. Extreme accuracy required in all duties performed. Specific job requirements or physical location allocated to this classification, of some positions may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
