PURPOSE: To provide the developed technical, and some managerial skills required for the installation, operation, and optimization of digital network communication equipment. Responsible for planning the installation and maintenance of network communication equipment and software necessary for terminals, workstations, personal computers, and mainframe computers to effectively communicate over a computer network.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Fabricate, configure, install, and test various forms of network communication equipment. Develop procedures necessary to determine interface requirements of new equipment/software needed for network expansion. Utilize a broad base of electronic and programmed communication theory to insure effective and optimal use of network communication resources. Interface with vendors/manufacturers as needed. Provide occasional consulting concerning communication needs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General and specific supervision from Network Maintenance Manager. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General training and supervision of Network Maintenance Technician I and Network Maintenance Technician II.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Three years completed courses towards bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years maintaining/repairing terminal, workstation, personal computer, and mainframe equipment, and three years installing and maintaining digital networks, and two years supervisory experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Advanced skill in the use of personal computer. Network terminal server, bridges, and operational devices of associated with specialized hardware and software. Extreme accuracy required in all duties performed. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas education Code.
