PURPOSE: Provide outstanding service to meet the needs of all university constituencies involved with research involving humans (e.g., Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC), IRB Chairs, IRB members, and investigators, etc.).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for day-to-day administrative and business activities related to human subjects research for including working with IRB Chairs/Vice Chairs/members and coordination of the IRB protocol submission and review process. Works with all appropriate constituencies (e.g., Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC), IRB Chairs, IRB members, investigators, etc.) and assist investigators throughout the IRB protocol submission, review and approval process. Organizes, coordinates and attends all IRB meetings, responsible for creation and distribution of meeting agendas (in consultation with IRB chairs/vice chairs), distribution of appropriate materials in advance of meetings, preparation of detailed IRB meeting minutes, and insure meeting quorum for IRB meeting. Securely maintains all IRB records as appropriate including agendas, minutes, policies, regulations, reference materials and individual protocol files. Maintains computer database management system for tracking IRB protocols including new protocols, protocol/consent modifications, continuation reviews, safety reports and adverse event documentation. Responsible for follow-up on all IRB actions (protocol modifications, Informed Consent changes, etc.), composes clear, concise and detailed correspondence to principal investigators to ensure that committee concerns, questions and rationale are appropriately communicated to researchers. Works with IRB Chair/Vice Chair to evaluate investigator's responses to determine if they are adequate or if additional information is needed. Assist IRB chairs/vice chairs in assigning reviewers. Keep abreast of changes in regulations and communicate changes to IRB Executive Committee for formalization and distribution to investigators. Certification as an IRB Manager (CIM) or an IRB Professional (CCIP) required within 12 months.

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year of experience with information systems and familiarity with database and word processing software. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be proficient with the operation of all equipment utilized by the department necessary to perform assigned duties. Accuracy in all phases of work performed. Standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Security sensitive; Criminal background check conducted. Specific job requirements or physical location of position allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code _51.215.
