PURPOSE: To perform the distribution of campus (inter-office) mail and out-going U.S. mail. Responsible for proper distribution of campus mail and efficient and economical dispatch of U.S. mail. Evaluates applicable Federal regulations and insures conformity to these regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Sorts mail and places it in mailboxes. Processes out-going mail according to postal regulations. Supervise cash window, selling stamps, envelopes, cards, aerogrammes, and postal money orders. Rents post office boxes. Answers questions about postal regulations and international mail. Insures outgoing mail is properly posted. Maintains funds associated with the U.S. Postal Service contract station. Performs related duties as required. Occasionally works at cash window.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Mail Services Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises all post office employees in the University Mail Box operation to include the contract station.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduate.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience as a mail clerk. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Postage meters, scales, adding machine, and other mailroom equipment. Extremely accurate in all phases of work. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involves a considerable amount of standing and occasionally heavy lifting and exposure to noise. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security/sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
