PURPOSE: To supervise the operation of electronic data processing systems and the processes associated with their use. Responsible for supervising, planning, scheduling, and coordinating the operation of electronic data processing equipment and associated processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules operation and maintenance of computer equipment. Supervises and evaluates performance of equipment maintenance-by-maintenance contractors. Makes initial diagnosis of user reports on system malfunctions. Defines, distributes, and schedules task roles and assignments. Interviews, tests applicants, and makes recommendations for computer operation positions. Supervises the acquisition of computer supplies. Performs related duties as required. Supervises the preparation and distribution of reports on system and equipment performance. Performs or directs installation of minor equipment. Designs and implements training curricula and instruction for operations personnel.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision by Director or Assistant Director. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Direct supervision to computer operation personnel.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Two years of college level coursework in Data Processing, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in advanced data processing operations. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be thoroughly acquainted with the operation of electronic computer systems composed of digital computers, tabulating card readers and punches, paper tape readers and punches, magnetic tape handlers, printers, and data communication devices. Exact accuracy in operation of high-speed digital computer and related equipment. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
