THE POSITION: The College of Engineering at The University of Texas – Arlington (UT Arlington) seeks nominations and applications for the Bioengineering (BE) Department Chair position. Candidates should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and have a strong record of scholarship and teaching commensurate with appointment as Professor. A Ph.D. in Bioengineering or a closely related discipline is required. The Chair will provide vision and leadership for the BE Department to achieve world-class research excellence while continuing its tradition of high-quality teaching and community service programs. The Chair will aspire to significantly increase research funding and endowments addressing national and international challenges. This includes fostering collaborations with industry, government groups, within UT Arlington and with other universities. The selected candidate will be considered for the Alfred R. and Janet H. Potvin Endowed Chair in Bioengineering.
The BE department offers a B.S. degree; M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are offered through a joint graduate program with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the University of Texas at Dallas. The department has eleven diverse, high achieving faculty and approximately 230 students (http://www.uta.edu/bioengineering/). The department has consistently enjoyed a high level of research funding.
The College of Engineering has six other academic departments and currently has approximately 4800 students. It is one of the most comprehensive engineering programs in the nation, with nine baccalaureate, thirteen masters, and nine doctoral programs.
UT Arlington is located in the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metroplex, neighboring two medical major schools, the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. There are extensive health care facilities and several bioengineering companies in the region, providing outstanding opportunities for collaborative research and development. Additionally, there are numerous aerospace, manufacturing, telecommunications, electronics, logistics, transportation, and energy industries that provide opportunities for collaborations.
