The English Department at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a non-tenure track Coordinator of Developmental English, beginning Fall 2013.
The Coordinator of Developmental English manages the Developmental English Program consisting primarily of the faculty teaching and the students enrolled in ENGL 0300 and ENGL 0100. The Coordinator will also teach six courses per year, including summer terms.
The Coordinator of Developmental English participates in long- and short-range planning processes of the Program, monitors results, and adjusts plans as necessary. The Coordinator organizes, manages, and directs the day-to-day operations of the Developmental Program. The Coordinator aligns developmental reading and writing instruction with First-Year English; develops and administers policies and procedures; develops syllabi and curriculum for ENGL 0300 and ENGL 0100; recruits, trains, and oversees instructors; participates in training First-Year English instructors; assists Director of First-Year English as needed, advises and consults with administration regarding plans, issues, and problems associated with Developmental English; and ensures compliance with applicable University policies and local, state, and federal requirements.
The Coordinator of Developmental English reports to the Director of First-Year English and supervises the Graduate Teaching Assistants, Lecturers, and other personnel involved in teaching and maintaining the Developmental English Program.
QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. in English, Rhetoric, or a related field required; PhD or ABD preferred. Two years of experience in Developmental English preferred. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of rhetoric and composition theory and practice; experience teaching developmental reading and writing, credit bearing composition, and familiarity with the Texas Success Initiative, including current testing formats and appropriate placement of students, college reading instruction, and ESL/EFL theory and practice.
