Nominations and applications are sought for a tenure-track position in the Program of Anthropology at the University of Texas at Arlington. We seek candidates with a strong theoretical command of globalization and related socio-cultural processes with a specialization in Medical Anthropology. Regional focus is open but preference will be given to the candidate who has an active research agenda in Latin America and/or the United States.
Applicants should complement and enhance existing faculty research strengths and have an active research agenda concerned with issues related to global health. The new hire is expected to teach five courses per academic year, actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in the wider life of the university.
The successful candidate is expected to forge links with colleagues in other units on campus (e.g., School of Nursing, School of Social Work, and Center for Mexican American Studies). A strong record of publications and grants will be highly valued. The Anthropology Program currently includes a permanent faculty of six (two cultural anthropologists, three archaeologists, and one biological anthropologist).
The University of Texas at Arlington, a public Doctoral/Research Extensive institution, is a part of the University of Texas System, enrolling approximately 34,000 students. It is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, a vibrant and growing region of north Texas, in proximity to several other universities and research facilities. Possibilities exist for collaborative research both within and between institutions.
Arlington, a city with a suburban feel and a pleasant and affordable place to live, has an ethnically and culturally diverse population. Its proximity to both Dallas and Fort Worth provides outstanding cultural and recreational opportunities, including world-renowned museums, symphony, opera and ballet, and professional sports. Arlington is conveniently located near DFW International Airport.
