The University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College Nursing. UT Arlington is an educational leader in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Founded in 1895 as a private liberal arts institution, UT Arlington achieved senior college status in 1959 and became part of the University of Texas System in 1965. UT Arlington is a Carnegie Foundation research university with high activity. U.S. News and World Report lists UT Arlington as one of the 15 most diverse universities in the country and the New America Foundation lists UT Arlington as one of six pubic Next Generation Universities that are that are “breaking the mold.”
The Dean reports to the Provost and is the senior academic and administrative officer of the College of Nursing. The Dean is responsible for providing the leadership and vision necessary for setting strategic, operational and financial directions. In those roles, the Dean has overall responsibilities for developing an effective collegial environment that supports excellence in teaching, research and service.
UT Arlington College of Nursing is the largest publicly funded nursing program in the United States with over 7,500 nursing students in its BSN, RN to BSN, MSN, Post-MSN, DNP and PhD programs. The BSN and MSN programs have been continuously accredited since inception by the National League for Nursing. Following its most recent accreditation visit by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in October 2011, the UT Arlington College of Nursing was granted a full 10-year reaccreditation for the BSN and MSN programs and initial accreditation for the DNP program.
The UT Arlington Masters NP programs overall were rated in the top 15% and its Family Nurse Practitioner program in the top 10% of nursing programs by US News and World Report. The College’s initial licensure program has been rated by the Higher Education Coordinating Board as 1 of the 9 “High Performers” (out of 108 nursing programs in Texas) because it had over a 90% RN licensure pass rate and graduation rate (first quarter 2013 – 95.48%).
The successful candidate for the dean position must demonstrate a distinguished record of achievement in teaching and research that is consistent with an appointment at the rank of professor with tenure. The candidate must also be a RN, hold a graduate degree in nursing and have an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field. Candidates must be academically qualified to accomplish the mission, goals and expected student and faculty outcomes.
