The School of Urban and Public Affairs (SUPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean. The duties of the Associate Dean include, but are not limited to, assisting and coordinating the School’s programs (City and Regional Planning, Interdisciplinary Studies Public Administration and Public Affairs) with their respective Directors, planning of curriculum, adjunct recruitment and management, administering doctoral comprehensive exams, chairing SUPA’s finance committee, advising and consulting with faculty on academic issues, updating the course catalog, and coordinating unit effectiveness reports to the university, as well as supporting the Dean’s work with assignments as needed. Expected teaching load is 1:1 and negotiable.
The candidate will be hired as an Associate or Full professor with their doctorate, preferably, in one of the School’s graduate program areas (public administration, urban affairs, and city and regional planning). Areas of specialization are open but preference is given to someone who demonstrates the ability to teach or do research across SUPA’s programs. The successful candidate will have a solid research and publication record, experience working with doctoral students, experience in community outreach, and a record of grantsmanship. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative and fundraising experience. Salary is competitive.
The School of Urban and Public Affairs offers excellent teaching and research support and its location in the heart of the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. – the Dallas-Fort Worth area – provides an ideal setting for the School’s focus. SUPA serves an academically and socially diverse group of more than 700 undergraduates and 250 graduates. SUPA houses the state-funded Institute of Urban studies which conducts studies and projects throughout the metropolitan region. With a broadly-trained multidisciplinary faculty, SUPA offers five graduate degrees - three at the masters and two at the doctoral level (http://www.uta.edu/supa/).
