Which employees' accrue vacation lave?

Regular staff employees who are appointed to work twenty hours or more per week and for at least four and one half months are eligible to accrue paid vacation leave.

When is an employee eligible to use vacation leave?

Vacation leave may not be granted until the employee has completed six months of continuous service in regular employee status, although it will accrue during that period. Once an employee has completed six months or more of continuous State employment that person is eligible to take vacation leave as it is earned upon reemployment. Vacation leave should be requested in advance in accordance with departmental policies and supervisory approval. Students employed in positions, which require student status as a condition of employment, are not eligible for vacation leave.

How much vacation does an employee accrue per month?

The current schedule of accrual provides for vacation leave according to years of service as follows:

TOTAL STATE EMPLOYMENT
OF:
ACCRUED PER MONTH
(APPOINTED FULL TIME)
MAXIMUM HOURS TO
CARRY FORWARD FROM
ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT
0-24 months 8 180
25-60 months 9 244
61-120 months 10 268
121-180 months 11 292
181-240 months 13 340
241-300 months 15 388
301-360 months 17 436
361-420 months 19 484
421 months or more 21 532

Part time employees appointed one-half time or more, for four and one-half months, accrue vacation in proportion to the percent of time and the maximum carryover will also be proportionate.

When can an employee be paid for their unused vacation hours?

An employee will be paid for any accrued and unused vacation upon termination unless transferring to another state agency with no break in service. The employee must have completed six months of continuous state service before being paid for vacation. The department is responsible for completing a Departmental Vacation/Holiday Payroll Voucher, and sending it to Human Resources. An employee can also be paid for vacation if they move to a position that does not accrue vacation. Vacation Voucher
