RE: Annual Staff Performance Reviews for A&P and Classified Staff 

The 2016 annual performance evaluation forms are now available for all staff employees. Faculty members and/or student employees are excluded from this performance review process. The review period covers January 2016 through December 2016. It will not be necessary to evaluate the performance of employees who have had a satisfactory probationary or six month review in December 2016. 

We are all committed to valuing the contributions of our staff and to providing continuing opportunities for success and career growth. Key elements of a performance management system include goal setting and performance planning, ongoing two-way communication and coaching during the year, as well as conducting an annual performance review.

The annual performance review process should be a collaborative ongoing process between a manager and an employee. This review process allows employees and managers the opportunity to review the department’s mission and discuss last year’s goals and accomplishments.

Goal setting and performance planning allows employees and managers to develop clear, consistent and measurable goals that are aligned with our core values and mission. Goal setting and performance planning, previously included in the performance review process, will now take place separately during the 2018 calendar year. Related training on goal setting and performance planning will be held in the months of August and September 2017. Goal setting sessions with your employees will take place during the months of October and November 2017. 

There are new annual performance management review forms and rating scales for this cycle. We are moving from a 3 point rating scale to a 5 point rating scale. Human Resources will be offering training on administering the performance review. The Writing Effective Performance Reviews course is available in two versions. Version one (New) provides an overview of the entire performance review process, including a review of the new forms and new rating scale. Version two (Experienced) includes an overview of only the new forms and new rating scale. Training sessions will begin the week of April 10th and will continue through the month of May 2017. You are encouraged to attend one of the available training sessions to learn more about the new forms and rating scale. 

As part of the performance management review process, all employees are encouraged to complete a self-evaluation. Evaluation forms can be accessed online at Evaluation Forms

If you are unable to attend a scheduled training session on the dates provided and you would like us to offer the training session for your department, please let us know. 

Annual Performance Reviews for all Staff employees, (excludes Faculty members, GTA’s or GRA’s) must be completed by Monday, May 22, 2017.
