2005 ROLL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS

Evelyn Martin was born in the West Texas town of Kermit.  After graduating from Kermit High School, she earned a degree from North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) in 1954.  She moved back to West Texas and worked for Humble Pipe Line (now Exxon Mobil) in Midland.  She married Jo Martin in 1955 and lived in Kermit for two and a half years and in Hobbs, NM for seven years before moving to Arlington in 1965.  They have a daughter, two sons and eight grandchildren.  Evelyn began working at UTA in 1973 for President Emeritus Jack Woolf.  After Dr. Woolf retired, she transferred to Physical Plant worked for George Minter, the Superintendent of Buildings.  In 1992, Evelyn was named one of UTA’s outstanding employees.  She served as secretary of the Retirees’ Club for three years following her retirement from the University in 1997.

Bill Shupe was born on August 31, 1936, near Mountain Park, Oklahoma.  He graduated from Granite High School in Oklahoma in 1954 and attended Harding College in Arkansas from 1954-56.  He worked for Chance Vought in Grand Prairie in 1956-57 before serving as a navigational aids technician with the rank of staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-61.  He worked for Erving, Prater, Pickins, Snodgrass and Koch CPAs in Arlington from 1973-76 before joining the UTA Internal Audit Office.  Bill became a CPA in 1980 and retired as UTA’s Director of Internal Audit in 1998.  He served one year as vice president of programs for the Retiree’s Club and is currently the organization’s treasurer.
