2013 ROLL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS
Bernice Franks was born and raised in Gatesville, Texas. She married in 1950 and immediately moved to Arlington with her husband, Ross Franks, who graduated from Arlington State College in 1951. She has two sons, David and Scott, and one daughter, Susan. The UTA tradition was continued with Scott attending UTA and Susan graduating with a BS in Medical Technology 1981.
Bernice was personally recommended to set up a central cashier office at UTA after working for many years as the Head Cashier at Sears and a short stint as a cashier for the First National Bank of Arlington. She was employed by UTA as the Head Cashier for the Housing and University Center from 1983 until 1987. She then transferred to the position of Reservation Coordinator where she was responsible for room reservations for student organizations, staff, and community organizations for functions, seminars, and meetings. She was known to go above and beyond by her focus on customer service; helping set up and decorate rooms, overseeing catering, and staying late to make sure events went as planned. She was recognized with numerous Certificates of Appreciation by various community and campus student organizations. In 1989 she received the UTA Outstanding Employee Award in recognition for her work and accomplishments. She retired in 1996 to care for her grandchildren. She continues to remain active in the community through volunteer work with local nursing homes. She joined the Retirees Club in 2008, serving on the Program Committee for three years and as Program Chair for two years.
