Career Cards

Click above to download a PDF version of these career cards. This deck of 52 cards is designed to help candidates consider and answer some of the tougher questions regarding their own career choices. These cards must be completed prior to an individual being connected to a Career Coach. These cards, along with the information completed in step 1, should be brought to the Career Coach meeting and discussed as part of the foundation for further growth. Once you have completed each of the exploration cards, please contact the Mav Careers Team and request an appointment with a Career Coach.

Career Coach

This activity is done in cooperation with a MavCareers representative and involves a partnership exploration of the career possibilities here at UT Arlington that closely match your Skills, Interests and Values, which you explored in step 1.

When you have completed the assessments provided in step 1 and the Career Cards in the first part of step 2, you should contact the MavCareers Team and set up a meeting with one of our Career Coaches. Your coach will then help you look closely at your assessments and discuss with you the jobs that are the best possible matches.

Once you have completed the questionnaire provided to your coach and narrowed down the list of career options, your coach will help direct you to contact the MavCareers team and request a Career Guide that fits with your chosen direction. It will then be your responsibility to contact your mentor and set up a meeting.

Career Guide

Click above to download the Career Guides questionnaire. Guides are those employees who, based on experience and/or personal career growth, have the unique knowledge and skills to provide candidates with helpful tips and information regarding a certain position or job family. Once you have received the contact information from the Mav Careers team, it is your responsibility to contact the individual and schedule a one hour appointment that is convenient for them and for you. In the meeting, take time to complete the questionnaire provided to help guide your conversation. Be sure to value your Career Guide's time and keep to the one hour time limit. Career Guides are not mentors and are instructed to not create an ongoing mentoring relationship with the employees they meet with. If you have additional questions or were not able to get all of your questions answered, please contact the MavCareers team and allow them to help you get the information you need.

Once you have completed the meeting with your Career Guide, please contact the MavCareers team for guidance on moving to step 3.
