Administrative Professional Program

These courses are designed to meet the needs of current Administrative Profesionals as well as those individuals who are just entering the field. The Administrative Professionals Program consists of three levels:

Level I Certificate: 12 hours form the required course list Admin
Level II Certificate: 18 hours from the required course list
Level III Certificate: 24 hours from the required course list
Level IV Certificate: 30 hours from the required course list.

Once a candidate has completed the requirements of any level, they will receive a certificate of completion indicating the level of completion as well as the courses include in this level.

*These classes are the basics for all levels of the A&P development program. These classes should be taken first as the foundation for future development.


Course Descriptions:


The Art of Listening: Although most people believe they are good listeners, most people only really listen to a small portion of a conversation. If you have the desire to become a good listener, then this course is for you. Participants will learn the basics of good listening as well as tips for identifying listening style and how to get the most out of a face-to-face conversation.Top

Professionalism in the Workplace: No matter what your title reads, you are an essential element in the success of your organization. In order for you to fulfill the responsibilities of your role, you must be able present yourself and your ideas with a great deal for professionalism. This course is designed to help you identify and develop those needed skills for projecting and maintaining professional work relationships, a winning attitude and confidence in the workplace.Top

Management Leadership Tool Training (Compliance): This face-to-face training is provided by the Office of Institutional Compliance. Although the content of the training focuses more on the manager/leader of the office or department, it is essential that the office Administrative Assistant be familiar with the expectations that are held on their department leader. Our goal is to help partner the Administrative Assistant with their manager/leader for overall office success.Top

The Building Blocks of Business Writing and Proofreading: Everything you write by hand or produce on a computer is a reflection of who you are as a professional. Taking the time to communicate effectively in writing is a key to your workplace success. In this course, you will learn basic and next level skills that will improve your writing skills and help you on the road to achieving the greatest level of effectiveness in your writing. You also need more than "spell check" to produce quality letters or reports. This course is designed to identify the skills needed to create and produce documents with accuracy and without error. The techniques of this course will help you learn to handle projects as simple as a quick e-mail and as difficult as detailed technical reports.Top

Writing Effective Emails: Email has become and essential communication tool for most individuals and organizations. It is essential that you identify and learn all of the basics of email communication as well as all of the dangers of email communication. In this course, participants will learn the keys to effective e-mails as well as proper cyber manners and how to avoid email overload.Top

Dealing With Difficult Employees and People: Never again fall victim to those who love to make life miserable for the rest of us. This training gives you concrete techniques for dealing with difficult people in the workplace and at home. It provides specific strategies for getting adversaries to cooperate...bullies to back off ... wallflowers to open up ... chronic complainers to quiet down. Knowing how to deal with difficult people at work will allow you to approach your job with more enjoyment and your coworkers with greater confidence. Cooperation, collaboration, and compromise will improve - and that makes for a more productive and efficient workplace for everyone. This class is also designed to help supervisors identify and deal with employees that create and stimulate difficult work environments. Participants will be given a variety of information regarding the proper way to discipline as well as alternatives to firing.Top

Managing Stress in the Workplace: Is stress affecting how you function at work or at home? Stress is normal and sometimes even necessary. How you handle stress makes all the difference. Learn what stress is and how to identify and understand it. In addition, discover how to identify your sources of your stress.Top

Conducting Effective Meetings: There are very few people who actually like to sit in meetings. However, meetings are necessary part of team and organizational management. This course is designed to explore the basic keys to conducting effective meeting that will help your team get the right information and then get the job done. Participants will learn how to plan and prepare for meeting and uncover the elements that make a meeting a success. This course also presents insight and tools to virtual meetings.Top

Discovering Purpose: What is your purpose? Having a clear purpose helps guide your decisions and empowers you to act in a clear and focused manner. In a word that perpetuates your fears and plays on your doubts it is essential that you discover your purpose and learn how to live it out. This course offers participants the tools for discovering purpose and keys to putting the purpose into your every action and response.Top

Fundamentals of Supervision/Management: This is a basic course that provides an overview of the essentials skills you will need to function as a supervisors. Participants will learn best practices for communication, coaching, dealing with difficult employees, and performance enhancement.Top

Powerful Presentation Skills: Public speaking may not be the most exciting activity for you, but you can learn the tips and techniques to make your next presentation a great success. Participants will learn how to develop and enhance their public speaking style and create compelling presentations. No matter what the subject, learn how to deliver the message with poise and power. Give your words an appeal that captures attention and leads to inspiration. A presentation delivered with power and passion will be memorable for all who attend.Top

Partnering with your Boss: As an administrative assistant, your success depends upon effectively partnering with your boss. You are often called upon to communicate, plan, organize, negotiate and participate in decision-making at very high levels. This course is specially designed to help you learn goal setting, prioritizing, planning, decision making, relationship building and listening. You will return to work with a better understanding of what partnering with your boss entails and a greater ability to support your organization's goals from your position as a secretary, executive secretary or member of the administrative support staff.Top

Developing Assertive Communication Skills: Do you struggle to find the right words in a conversation? Do you find yourself not being able to get your point across? Now is your opportunity to learn the skills that can empower you to speak clearly and effectively. Participants will learn about communication styles, non-verbal communication, and additional keys to communication that will educate and empower. Learn powerful tools for assertiveness to help you deal with conflict at all levels in the organization and discover techniques on how to be an assertive communicator. You will also explore the differences between being passive, aggressive and assertive. In addition, you will assess your areas of strength and growth in this critical skill.Top

Project Management: In today's time-based and cost-conscious global business environment, tight project deadlines and stringent expectations are the norm. This course will help participants gain an introduction to project management, along with essentials skills and techniques necessary for planning and executing projects on time, on budget, and with maximum efficiency and productivity.Top

Solving Problems/Making Decisions: Participants are invited to bring one in-depth problem for the class to discuss. This seminar is designed to explore real problems and discover how to develop strategies to map out the problem and discover a real solution. You will explore the tools for creatively brainstorming solutions and facing obstacles from a whole new perspective. In addition, you will uncover how to effectively use a step-by-step process to achieve greater results.Top

Learning to Take Risks: Stepping outside the box and exposing yourself to ridicule and criticism is never easy. However, there are times, in order to get your goals and vision accomplished, you must take a risk. This training class is designed to help you understand the art of risk taking and explore the concepts of weighing your risk before you take it. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of when, where, and how to take a risk.Top

Welcoming Diversity: This workshop, offered three times per year, is an experiential, interactive program designed to promote awareness and increased sensitivity to the many similarities and differences among individuals and groups in our society. Done in an upbeat, hopeful tone, the program focuses on developing self-pride, examining stereotypes, and learning skills in responding to prejudicial jokes, remarks, and slurs. Participants will also discover how to be more attentive to diversity and racism in the workplace and community. Please dress in comfortable/causal attire.Top
