An Analysis of Chick-Fil-A

CSB Battery: Facility Consolidation

The goal of this project is to decrease the wait time at Chick-Fil-A, increase throughput, and decrease the queue length. A decreased line and improved wait times will attract more business and keep customers from abandoning the line. We also seek to reorganize the line and layout in a way that will allow customers to easily access drinks and other pre-made items without waiting on other customers who are waiting for other orders to be prepared.

UPS Next Day Air

CSB Battery: Facility Consolidation

Over the years, UPS has had a steady increase in next day air shipping volume. All packages in the eastern operations are flown from Dallas Ft. Worth Airport on three scheduled flights with a potential “hot flight” that can be flown out as well. The company would like us to consider potential ways to increase next day air volume availability.

Americold Inventory

CSB Battery: Facility Consolidation

Americold is one of the national leaders in cold storage and distribution. They are continuously working on improving inventory control processes, and are looking to innovate. The purpose of this project is for the students to learn the warehouse processes and how to solve a real world problems using methods, algorithms and techniques taught in classes. The goals of the project are; Find and eliminate the root causes of inventory inaccuracy, Set up a streamlined inventory error submission channel, Create a Standard Operating Procedure for Inventory Control processes that can be used among Americold facilities, and Reduce the inventory correction time after an error is submitted.

Airbus Helicopters, Inc.

Airbus Helicopters, Inc.: DCR Transoformation

Airbus Helicopter Inc. has presented the need for redesigning the helicopter blade installation process.

Using DMAIC, our team has provided alternatives for blade storage, blade storage procedure, and installation equipment. Our alternatives are projected to decease process time by 48% and man hours by 22%.

DFW Airport Terminal D

Cook Children’s Reducing Refrigerator and Freezer Alarms

The current process at the airport is experiencing negative customer experience caused by the following two factors: First is lack of exact predictive knowledge in the arrival times of passengers at a specified security checkpoint, and second is long waits at D30 security checkpoint causing a negative customer experience. It is very important to highlight that this project is an aid for the management team at Terminal D, specifically at security checkpoint D30.

Parker Hannifin Corp.

Therapeutic Hand Cycles: Improving Manufacturability

Our capstone design team has partnered with Michael Salinger (Lean Site Leader) and Son Vu (Mfg. Engineer) at Parker-Hannifin Parflex facility in Mansfield, TX. The facility there is responsible for producing a variety of PTFE hoses used in industry and aerospace. The plant has been having quality issues for the past six months with scrap waste occurring in the silicone hose lay line station. There are a significant amount of resources tied up in the product at this stage as it is toward the end of the production process,  making any scrap at this stage very costly.

Operation Kindness

Razoo’s Restaurant: Improving Customer Satisfaction

The current scheduling system at Operation Kindness contained several redundancies. The same information was present at many locations within the medical area of the facility. Creating a centralized scheduling system will bring uniformity to the process and increase the time efficiency for the primary Veterinarian staff and also the veterinarian technicians and assistants.

Aviall Defense

Triumph Group: RCCA Analysis

Aviall Defense is projected to grow its business by 25% through the end of 2016.  The current layout doesn’t support the Aviall vision.  By removing the barrier and consolidating the floor space, flow processes can be reengineered to optimize cycle time and footprint.  Additionally, the efficient use of space enables further evaluation of flow in the Aviall Central Distribution Center.
