A Look Ahead

The Institute of Urban Studies helps make communities more livable

Dallas Fair Park

Graduate students in the Institute of Urban Studies—part of the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs—are working to make Texas communities more livable. Established by the Texas Legislature in 1967, the institute provides a broad array of services to cities and municipalities, including customized planning, management services, and neighborhood development research. In the past two years, students have completed a Dallas Fair Park proposal; a Waxahachie trails plan; a comprehensive plan for Palestine, Texas; a Mineral Wells downtown redevelopment plan; and many more. The institute is currently working with Dallas to assess the walkability and pedestrian experience of the downtown area.
