Leadership Studies Minor and Certificate

Program Objective

The Leadership Studies Minor will prepare students to be relational, ethical, and global leaders armed with the knowledge and skills to make a positive contribution in the workplace, the communities in which they live, and throughout the world. The courses are designed to help students explore the dimensions of leadership so that they may engage in leadership that is constructive, purposeful, and oriented toward improving the human condition. The Leadership Studies Minor is a joint initiative between the Department of Educational Leadership and The Leadership Center in the Division of Student Affairs.

Admission Requirements

The minor is open to all degree-seeking students in good academic standing. If your degree plan does not offer a minor, you can opt for the 15-hour credited Leadership Studies Certificate with academic unit approval.


If you are interested in obtaining a minor in Leadership Studies:

1) Complete the Minor Approval Form and have it signed by your major department advisor. 

2) Once the Minor Approval Form is completed, bring in-person to Alexa Rains in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.

4) You will then set up a meeting with Alexa Rains Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, to be advised for the program.

5) If you can only enroll in the Leadership Studies 15-hour cerificate program, please use this approval form and complete steps 2-4 above.

Capstone in Leadership Studies

NOTE: The Leadership Studies Certificate is 15 hours less the advanced level elective.
