Leadership Recognition Awards
Outstanding Student Leader Awards
For over 30 years the University in conjunction with the Office of the President and the Vice President for Student Affairs has been recognizing a student's contributions to the University. The UT Arlington Leadership Recognition Program honors the University's outstanding student leaders who have made significant contributions to their organization(s) or the University.
The nomination crieria follows:
- A student must meet all minimum standards desginated in the award's description.
- A student must have held, or currently be holding, an official leadership position.
- The involvement and offcial position(s) must either be with a registered student orgranization or an auxiliary group (which would be inclusive of but not limited too: peer counselors, university performance groups, resident assistants, student publications staff, etc.)
- The nominees for Outstanding First Year and Second Year Leader must have a minimum UTA grade point average of 2.25. All other awards must have a mimimum of a 2.5 UTA grade point average.
- Acknowledgement will only be given to those leadership efforts that were accomplished at UT Arlington.
First Year Leader Award
The First Year Leader Award was established to recognize an outstanding student leader who is committed to developing and enhancing their leadership skills. Its purpose is to acknowledge an up-and-coming student leader. A student must be actively involved in at least one organization and have assumed a leadership role or responsibilities in some capacity within the organization while maintaining a minimum G.P.A. of 2.25. Applicant must be a first-time nominee and classified as a freshman/ first year student having begun their first year at UT Arlington in the summer/fall 2015. The amount of the award is a $850.00 scholarship.
Second Year Leader Award
The Second Year Leader Award was established to recognize an outstanding student leader who is committed to developing not only their leadership skills but strengthening their organization. Its purpose is to acknowledge an individual who has made significant contribution to their organization or group through their leadership. A student must be actively involved in at least one organization and have assumed a leadership role or responsibilities in some capacity within the organization while maintaining a minimum G.P.A. of 2.25. Applicant must be classified as a sophomore/ second year having begun their second year at UT Arlington in the summer/fall 2014. The amount of the award is a $850.00 scholarship.
Student Leadership Award
The Student Leadership Award identifies individuals who have made significant contributions to their organizations and the University within the past year. Students must be involved in a minimum of two organizations/groups and held a major leadership position in at least one of those organizations or recognized departmental components. Since academic achievement plays an important role in leadership, award consideration requires a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Can be an undergraduate or graduate student. The amount of the award is a $1,000.00 scholarship.
Wayne Duke Leadership Award
Dr. Wayne Duke was the longtime Vice President of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington who believed in student engagement and leadership development. Selection will be based on level of involvement, effectiveness as a leader, variety of experience and length of time served in leadership roles while at UT Arlington. Recipients of this award must meet the minimum criteria for the Outstanding Student Leadership Award. The student must show ongoing leadership development and contributions throughout their undergraduate enrollment at UTA as an undergraduate student. The amount of the award is a $1,300.00 scholarship.
MAVERICK LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
The Maverick Leadership Scholarship is awarded by The Leadership Center to entering freshmen who have demonstrated persistent leadership and scholarship during high school. Each student selected receives a $2000 scholarship which is renewable for 3 years. The award is to encourage high school students to continue their leadership development and academic achievement during college.
ROBERTO GAITAN AND BARBARA PEET LEADERSHIP CENTER SCHOLARSHIP
The Gaitan-Peet Leadership Center Scholarship makes funds available to UT Arlington students who have demonstrated persistent leadership and scholarship throughout their academic career. This award is to encourage and recognize their leadership development and academic achievement during college. Any current UT Arlington student or incoming student to UTA can apply who meets the criteria.
DR. ALLAN SAXE DISABLED STUDENT AWARD
The Office for Students with Disabilities offers the Allan Saxe Disabled Student Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship is awarded each fall and spring semester to a student with a disability who excels academically at UT Arlington as well as in community activities.
OUTSTANDING STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARD
The office of Student Activities and Organizations offers this award. It honors organizations that have shown excellence in serving their members, the University and/or the community. The award will be presented with a plaque and $350 to each category winner. $500 will be awarded to the overall winner.
OUTSTANDING STUDENT ORGANIZATION ADVISOR AWARD
The office of Student Activities and Organizations offers this award. The Outstanding Student Advisor Award recognizes outstanding service by advisors. The award is presented with a plaque and $750.
KENT GARDNER LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
This award is given by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to a member in one of the UT Arlington fraternity or sorority organizations for outstanding service and leadership to the Greek Community.
