LGBTQA Program Scholarship

All current University of Texas at Arlington students are eligible to apply for the 2017-2018 LGBTQA Program Scholarship with the scholarship award in the amount of $250.

The intent of this scholarship is to promote leadership, activism, and support of the LGBTQIA+ community. This scholarship is open to any currently enrolled UTA undergraduate or graduate student, regardless of sexual or gender identity, who has a demonstrable record of service and support of LGBTQIA+ activism, programs, and services, civic and/or service involvements, and/or research at UTA or in the local community.

Eligibility & Application Criteria:

1. Currently enrolled UTA undergraduate or graduate student

2. Can be a full or part-time student, but must have at least 12 credit hours completed at UTA by the end of May 2018

3. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5

4. Applicants must submit the 2017-2018 LGBTQA Program Scholarship online application that includes the following:

  • Resume
  • Responses to three short application essays (250-500 words each)
  • List two references (name and contact email and phone) that can assure the applicant’s leadership, service, and/or academic research in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. At least one of the two          references must be a UTA faculty or staff member
  • In order to complete your application, you will need to submit a recommendation letter from only one of your references.

Please choose one of the following methods for submitting a recommendation letter.

Option A: The reference can submit their signed letter of recommendation via email to Kasey Catlett, Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs & LGBTQA Program, at kasey.catlett@uta.edu.

Option B: Applicant or reference can submit their signed letter of recommendation in person to Kasey Catlett, Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs & LGBTQA Program, in the E.H. Hereford University Center, Suite B150.

Terms & Condition:

A scholarship committee consisting of UTA faculty and Staff members, outside of Multicultural Affairs and LGBTQA Program, will choose the scholarship winner based on the criteria mentioned above in “eligibility & application criteria”. The selected recipient will receive a one-time award in the amount of $250. The scholarship will be deposited into the recipient’s centralized Bursar account at UTA. Scholarship will first be applied to any pending charges in the recipient’s Bursar account. Any remaining funds will be distributed to the recipient. The scholarship will be disbursed by June 1st, 2018. The scholarship selection committee and LGBTQA Program reserve the right to refrain from disbursing the scholarship, should a qualified applicant not be identified.

Application Deadline: The 2017-2018 LGBTQA Program Scholarship application, in its entirety, must be submitted before 5 p.m. on Friday, April 27th.
