LGBTQA Program Scholarship

All current UT Arlington students are eligible to apply for the LGBTQA Program Scholarship. The 2017-2018 scholarship amounts will be announced this January.

Purpose of Award: The intent of this scholarship is to promote leadership, activism and support of the LGBTQA+ community. This scholarship is open to any currently enrolled UTA undergraduate or graduate student, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, who has a demonstrable record of service and support of LGBTQA+ activism, programs and services, civic and/or service involvements, and/or research at UTA or in the local community.

Eligibility & Application Criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled UTA undergraduate or graduate student
  2. Can be a full or part-time student but must have at least 12 credits completed at UTA by the end of May 2018.
  3. Applicants must have a minimal cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
  4. Applicants must submit an online application that includes the following:
    ~ Resume
    ~ Responses to 3 short application essays (250 – 500 words each)
    ~ List 2 references that can speak on behalf of the applicants
       leadership, service, and/or academic research in support of the
       LGBTQA+ community. At least 1 reference must be a
       UTA faculty or staff member
    ~ In order to complete your application, you will need to submit a
       recommendation letter from one of your references.
       Please choose 1 of the following methods for submitting your recommendation letter:

   Option A: You will receive a follow up link to upload your letter

Option B: Submit your letter in person to Kasey Catlett, Assistant Director in the Multicultural Affairs & LGBTQA Program office located in the basement level of the University Center.
If needed, ask the UC info desk for directions to our suite (B150). 

Terms & Conditions:
A scholarship committee consisting of UTA faculty and staff members will choose the scholarship winner(s). The selected recipient will receive a 1-time award in an amount TBD. The scholarship will be deposited into the recipient’s centralized Bursar account at UTA. Scholarship will first be applied to any pending charges in the recipient’s Bursar account. Any remaining funds will be distributed to student. The scholarship will be disbursed by June 1st. The scholarship selection committee and LGBTQA Program reserve the right to refrain from disbursing the scholarship should a qualified applicant not be identified. 

Application Deadline:
The application period for the 2017-18 academic year will be announced this January.

Recognition Ceremonies:
The scholarship winner will be recognized at the following 2 ceremonies:

  • Annual Diversity Recognition Awards
    Tuesday, April 17th, 6 – 8 p.m., UC Rio Grande
  • Lavender Graduation Ceremony
    Tuesday, April 24th, 5:30 – 7 p.m., UC Carlisle Suite
